Laugh on a Grand Scale?

An inappropriate joke, that went down like a lead balloon!

Back in August, I published this classified ad:-

You'll see that I changed the word Kit to twit as a bit of a light-hearted joke. It was a consequence of a long running disagreement between myself and the other publication. .

When the advertiser contacted me to complain: whilst I did offer a replacement advertisement, I responded dismissively. I apologise for this, as I usually try to offer the best possible customer service to all my customers and clients

Whatever the rights and wrongs of my dispute with Which Kit Car? magazine, I was wrong to involve this customer in this way. I've since published the advertisement as it was intended to be, apologised in print and now regard the matter closed.

It is a real pity that the advertiser in question has not accepted my apology and remains intent upon blowing the issue beyond all proportion.

PS. I've formulated the following strategy that should help me avoid making similar mistakes in the future.

The Which Twit Problem – the final solution?

I’ve made no apologies concerning my problem with Which Kit Car? magazine. My attitude is well founded and unchanged. However, I accept that some ways I’ve employed to get my points across have been wrong.

The issues are gigantic in their scope and depth, furthermore, I’ve made an undertaking in the High Court that I won't publicly discuss certain details. I've been skirting around periphery points in my attempts to expose Which Kit Car? for what it is.

It’s apparent that ‘pulling’ Mr Peter John Filby on petty offences is no substitute for demonstrating that he’s seriously erred. My mocking him concerning trivial misdemeanours has served to make me look silly. As a result: I’ve sometimes been incorrectly labelled ‘as bad as him’, but mostly I’ve simply been misunderstood.

To avoid sniping and carping: this is what I’m going to do.  On this site, I shall compile a chronological list of events which have led to the current state of affairs. The list shall link to important documents. As to comment - there shall not be any in the main chronology. Readers shall be able to draw their own conclusions from the documents themselves.

Go into the Filby Fact File only if you’re interested. Please go back to the Kit Car Home page if you’re not.

In doing this, I can more fully employ the pages of my magazines for the job intended – promoting this fabulous industry. If, in future, I find it necessary to refer to these matters in Kit Car or Cobra; I’ll be able to do so succinctly with reference to this resource. You’ll therefore notice a lot less mention of twits and fibs in future issues (although I’m not promising that will never happen again).

Kit Car is a commercial title. It’s larger than its main rival, with more advertisers, both private and trade, and it has a bigger readership. It shall therefore continue to extol these virtues as assets, in forceful self-promotional terms, as would any other title enjoying similar success. As we say:

Others pretend, but we really are number one!

PS. The Filby Fact File is going to take a great deal of time and effort to fully compile. It presently links only four sets of documents relating to four grievences. There are, I think, 7 overlapping stories which make up the complete picture. Those so far complied concern the early years, the frist Writ and the Howell reports (which gave rise to the second Writ) and Filby's involvement with Python.
