Filby Facts - After The Courts Please don’t read this unless you want the facts concerning DT's grievences against Mr Peter Filby, editor of Which Kit Car? magazine. Please go back to the home page if you’re not interested. Go to the Filby Fact Files to get the whole story chronologically arranged. In the Early History page, you can read about the origins of the conflict. In the First Legal Action, you can read about the first action that DT brought against PF. In the Howell issue you can read about the second action that DT brought against PF. In the Monty Python Sketch you can read the story of PF's involvement with the Python confidence trick. You'd think that PF would have had enough by the time all the above legal disputes had been settled by his retraction and apology .Not a bit of it! PF refused to publish his apology in WKC as per Press Complaints Commission rules so the matter was referred to the PCC who first said they'd help and then said they wouldn't. So PF never repeated his public apology outside the High Court. Instead he started a fresh new attack, in Breach of the Order of Judge Gray: this time on Kit Car magazine. DT could have taken more legal action concerning both these points, but needed more Court actions like he needed a hole in the head. Instead, he decided to fight fire with fire. To that end, Kit Car published it's first ever retort, followed in the next issue with an article entitled Which Kit Exposed! That started a roller coaster which, 3 years later, led to Mr Filby's retirement! On a regular basis from these initial salvos in May/June 03, DT continued to publish truthful accounts of PF's ongoing lies and dodgy practices. DT saw Peter Filby as a bent copper and a game-keeper turned poacher, who needed exposing to his own readers. The 3 areas exposed were: The misleading claims Fibly constantly made regarding WKC's allegedly improving circumstances; his brazen lies concerning the products he was selling (the Monty Python Sketch being the most significant): and his lack of qualifications (both moral and technical). Legal actions cost PF at least £150,000 directly in legal fees. The effect of his barring KC from his shows drastically affected them too (all of which have now collapsed). Whilst my exposee resulted in a massive loss of WK? readers. The eventual and predictable result, at the end of 2006, was the collapse of the Peter Filthy empire. Unfortunately for those with a genuine interest in kit cars, the succession of dodgy, over-egged, kits and the excessive coverage they were given made the entire industry look bad. Through Fibly's dishonesty the Kit Car industry has been made to suffer almost to the same extent as the suffering he brought upon himself. As has been said; Peter John Filby was both bent and technically ignorant. I don't think I'll ever understand how he came to get into the position he once held. It was a painful experience for me in standing up to him, but my only regret is that hadn't done so 10 years previously. The following links narrate further aspects of this saga:- Fiby Fact File - The chronological listing of events/documents Early History involving Fibly's dodgy business dealings and lack of knowledge and how it led to legal conflict with DT DT's First Writ of Summons against Fibly - presented as a story.
