The Great British
kit-car Club
The idea of the first, GB KCC publication was to set the ball rolling for the kit car club scene.
We reckon that there is a need for a small publication to fill the gap between the main kitcar magazines, that tend to feature mainly manufacturer's products, and the host of individual club magazines that obviously are read only by members of those particular clubs. We believe the former does not always meet the needs of established kitcar enthusiasts who already have a kitcar and the latter a little too specialised.
Although the first publications appear as part of Kit-Car magazine, copies of it will be made available at shows and will be sent through the post to club members, so the distribution will be very wide indeed. It is intended that the GBKCC magazine will be a separate publication and not just part of kit-car.
In producing the GBKCC magazine, we hope to present the personal, friendly and social side of kitcars without too much emphasis on the commercial requirements of the advertisers of new kits, or the narrower objectives of individual clubs. In doing so, we hope to be able to span this gap without offence to anyone at either end of this spectrum. Especially, we have no intention that the GBKCC should supplant individual clubs, quite the reverse, we hope that it will work closely with them and become an extension of their activities.
Content.
Quite honestly, we don't know how this new venture is going to work, or what will be included in each issue of the club magazine. The answer really relies on the response we get from the membership. We want to include the features and information that you feel is required and consequently we would like to hear from you. It seems to us that the soil of features that should be in the mag. include such items as technical features; hints and tips on building; money-saving tips; reports on kitcar events and gatherings of all types; build reports; service and maintenance and a 'buddy scheme' whereby anyone building a car receives help and/or advice from someone who is experienced in that particular task. But that's just our ideas, let's hear from you.
Market Place
As with any other club magazine we hope to be able to receive advertising support from various suppliers, insurance companies, spares suppliers, tyre and oil manufacturers, and so on. We are in the process of negotiating substantial discounts with suppliers and these will, of course he passed on to members. Other benefits will include discounts on certain show tickets, the use of special facilities at shows for memhers only, discounted magazine subscription rates, member's track days, organised trips to foreign shows, seminars, visits to manufacturers and so on. It is also our intention to be able to provide a forum for you to both buy and sell your widgets, gadgets, cars and services.
Calendar
What's on and where. We plan to cover all kitcar-related activities, please keep us supplied with the necessary information and we'll do the rest. Club secretaries are especially invited to contribute but please remember that we have deadlines that are three-months in advance.
Technical
Other people would like to know about your kitear building experiences -the problems you may have had, the costs, the little wrinkles you've learned, the modification you carried out....and so on. Once again, let us know and we'll pass the information on to others.
Kit-Car Magazine involvement
We have taken the initiative to start the ball rolling and we intend to get the first few issues of the magazine printed as part of Kit-Car magazine club coverage and promotional activities. However, our hope is that there will come a point when this club will be able to stand on its own and the magazine will be printed as a separate entity with its own editor and officials -just like any other club magazine.
Club List
Ahem! Well, we are aware that our latest publicised list was somewhat out of date but we promise to print an accurate one next month. Please keep us informed of changes.
Want To Help?
We really would like your contnbutions but we are also looking for someone to put each issue together from a content viewpoint~ If you are a kitcar enthusiast and you have some spare time, and you fancy having 'editor' added to your list of credentials, this could he the job for you. There's no money in it, but you can bask in the warm glow of achievement - and who knows what may follow.
HOW DO YOU JOIN ?
Membership is £10 per year. In return we will send your membership number which you can use to get discounts with certain suppliers, use the club services - which will be considerably expanded as the club gets underway, and on top of all this you will receive all copies of the club magazine for one year.
At this stage we are not sure how many issues of the GBKCC magazine will be produced every year, but each one will initially consist of 32 pages and will go to press when full. So the more we have to put in them, the more frequently they will be published. We guarantee there will be at least five issues, but probably not more than 10 in the next 12 months - but it really is all down to the membership.
For membership send £10 (made payable to Kit Car Club) to:
