Not being content with their achievements Pilgrim continued the development of the Bulldog Roadster by introducing the Mk. IV version in 1988. This car had all the body features of the Mk.lll but used the mechanical parts from a Ford Cortina. This opened up a wide European market for the Bulldog. For a few years the Bulldog remained unchanged whilst Pilgrim Cars developed their Family Tourer and Sumo models. Much experience was gained, and development work resumed on the Bulldog Mk.V in 1991. The resulting car is shown in this brochure
ON THE ROAD
On the road it is not difficult to see why the Bulldog is such a popular kit. The solidly constructed chassis combined with the thick fibreglass body produces a taught, rattle-free sports car. The steering is light and responsive. The well positioned gear lever enables rapid, positive gear selection. The range of Ford engines endow the light weight Bulldog with plenty of power and acceleration. With the hood folded down and wind in the hair, the Bulldog is sensational fun to drive. Due to the skill and experience of the chassis designer, it handles as a sports car should. The engine is sited well back giving excellent weight distribution, whilst the steering and suspension geometry have been expertly set for positive cornering.
In town, people often comment on the high quality of finish asking questions like, "Did you restore her yourself?"
THE KIT
Far from a restoration job, the Bulldog is built from a brand new long lasting body and a tough new steel chassis. The bodywork is made from rust-free fibreglass with a deep colour impregnated scratch resistant gel coat surface. Under this is thick, hand laminated fibreglass reinforcement. All edges are returned for appearance, strength and longevity. Under the body is a solidly engineered, JIG built and MIG welded steel chassis. It is made from very strong structural engineering box section tube with a wall thickness of at least 3 mm on all main chassis rails.
All fixing holes for the mechanical parts are accurately pre-drilled to make the chassis ready for immediate, rapid assembly.
