Compared to general market, luxury car sector appears to be least affected by electrification trend. It seems that as long as you pay enough, you can still drive your favorite V8 model. That doesn't mean luxury cars will stay put, though, as Mercedes-Maybach has released official images of new S580e, Maybach's first plug-in hybrid.
As first electrified model of Maybach brand, S580e does not exaggerate its personality in appearance and still looks like a "boss image" full of aura when viewed from front. An atmospheric straight waterfall grille is used on front edge and Maybach logo is inlaid in center, with chrome spokes aura is still quite strong.
However, S580e is not without elements of electrification. The inside of headlights are adorned with blue embellishments symbolizing electrification. With details of inner lamp beads, it has a strong sense of technology.
At same time, there is a charging port on side. In case of fast charging, battery can be fully charged from 0% to 100% in 30 minutes, and two charging methods are supported: DC and AC. .
The rear of car also features luxury that a Maybach should have. While design of taillights is controversial, there is still a sense of sophistication in interior design thanks to lighting effect. In addition, a place that greatly spoils look and aesthetics is second charging port on bumper, which is more visible on right rear, which affects overall consistency.
The interior continues Maybach design. The floating central control screen and flat center console are also familiar designs. It is expected that other materials and color options will be used for interior trim.
The rear seat has an outstanding two-seat design, and various luxurious configurations are not missing, and since it is a PHEV model, it can be put into car without starting engine. It is a quiet and environmentally friendly feeling is also a display of temperament.
The Maybach S580e also has good performance parameters. The S580e still has a 3.0T L6 engine with a maximum power of 367 horsepower and a peak torque of 500 Nm. The maximum power of electric motor is 150 horsepower and maximum torque. 440 Nm. The combination of two can deliver a maximum output of 510 horsepower and a maximum torque of 750 Nm. It can accelerate from zero to 100 kilometers in 5.1 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. Of course, you can also use only engine: official WLTP range is only 100 km, and maximum speed is 140 km/h.
The Mercedes-Maybach S580e still has performance that a luxury car should have and, as always, packs a lot of power and is even quieter. Interestingly, this car will be first to appear in domestic market, and then go to Southeast Asia, Europe and other markets. Considering positioning of model, price of this electrified Maybach will not be too low, but given characteristics of product, it could become a mainstream model in China.
